Jump+ worked on this project with a Hong Kong artist and curator Movana Chen. Since 2004, Movana has been knitting magazines and transforming them into artworks. She began using books as her knitting arts in 2009 to further develop her idea of “two-ways communication”.
Jump+ and Movana together developed the idea of “One day at a Time”, which is a travelling art across the city of London for a 24 hours event, allowing Movana to create her art work outside the highly structured art organisations. During this day, she knitted her on-going artwork from a book threaded into pieces of paper, given to her by Mukul Patel whom Jump+ has introduced her to. She travelled and knitted, allowing strangers to participate in her creative process, and leaving their memory with her creation.
With an insight into London’s landscape, Jump+ worked with Movana to find suitable locations for her to share her knitting experience and story. The project was a great success, allowing Movana to develop her art in London at ambient.space and also creating an exciting experience for many Londoners who participated in the project.
Movana Chen's work is a multi-disciplinary fushion of media transformation, fashion, sculpture, live art and installation, which has been presented in diverse exhibitions and festival events in Hong Kong, London, Seoul, Beijing and Shanghai. (www.movanachen.com)
