Li E Chen - CLOUD CLOCK LOVE
A Durational Lab on ‘ NOTHING’, 3-4 September 2011
Cloud Clock Love is a research and development project exploring ‘nothing’/’nothingness.’ Li-E Chen would like to invite participants from a wide range of backgrounds to a durational laboratory, to collect ‘nothing’ and create ‘nothing.’
The laboratory will be led by Li-E Chen and will begin with a series of experiments that utilize binary structures of numbers, texts/codes and spoken words with the aim of introducing “Nothingness” (conceived as that which involves no memory, no thinking, no information, no message and no emotion). Performance scores and different starting points will be explored. The laboratory aims to serve as a creative explorational platform to allow participants to exchange and explore new languages of movement from ‘nothing.’
Li’s related works on “nothingness” include ‘Folly Boring, Nothing, Nothing, Nothing’ (performance installation, 2002), ‘An artistic interpretation of Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land -disjunctive relativity and mathematical theory’ (was presented as part of the Freshworks, as a member of the Young Vic Genesis Directors Network, 2009), ‘A performance of 0, 0, 0, n+1’ and ‘What is your name?’ (Artist Residency at Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester, 2009), and ‘1n2n3n4n5 and the last man on earth.’ (BAC Scratch Festival, 2009)
Her artistic development has been supported by Manick Govinda (Artsadmin), The Chinese Arts Centre (PAD scheme and Whisper Residency programme), Improbable’s Devoted & Disgruntled and Open Space Technology events. The Young Vic Directors Programme (Young Vic), Sally Dean (Director of Sally E Dean Performing Arts company) and Creative Space@Clarence Mews.

“It was fascinating to see Li’s work on Pinter's writing. I'd love to see
some of her other work - art or theatre... I've been thinking for a while
about how Pinter needs a whole new attitude in staging and maybe this is it!”

Cloud Clock Love is a platform for exploring new understandings of “nothingness” in post-postmodernity.
It it it it it...is...is...what it is. nothingness is beyond representational.
nothingness is beyond what we can identify.
nothingness is beyond signs/symbol.
what if truth is nothing at all?
